I found this led replacement bulb with remote control for lighting effect. Looks pretty cool. I'll order one and let you know what I think. If you are a gadget freak like me and order one. I'd like to get your opinion of it.
All the Best!

Energy Cost in Making LED repacement bulbs

I found this research on the treehugger.com. The article was written by Michael Graham Richard. I found the artcle very well done and interesting. Treeugger.com has a lot of information on LED replacement bulbs.

LED Lights LCA Studies
Both the Carnegie Mellon and Osram studies found that production is a relatively small portion of the total life-cycle impact of the different lightbulb technologies. From the Osram study: "[with LEDs and CFLs] over 98% of the energy used is consumed to generate light. Less than two percent is allocated to production. This dismisses any concern that manufacturing of LED particularly might be very energy-intensive."
When comparing LEDs that produce about 30 lumens/watt to CFLs, the results are very close, and for all practical purposes, we can say that LEDs are as energy efficient as CFLs. But LEDs are still improving and they do not contain mercury, which makes their disposal less hazardous than CFLs. The Carnegie Mellon study predicts that efficiencies of 150 lumens/watt are possible for LEDs:

Why this Blog?

I have been an electrician/electrical contractor for 30 years. Having seen new technology come and go, I knew compact florescence's wouldn’t last long. All this hype about how compact fluorescence's were helping the planet is upsetting to me, a lot of issues were not being considered. I love this planet. Compact fluorescent bulbs contain Mercury. Where are all these bulbs going to go? I have read where people are dying in China because of the manufacturing of the things.

LED replacement bulbs have come down in cost considerably. Many more manufacturers are starting to produce them with many more styles available.

I felt that I could help people find the best led replacement bulb to fill there lighting needs. Helping each other make this planet a better place.

Choosing an LED bulb

Choosing an LED light bulb Many different models and styles of LED bulbs are emerging in today's marketplace. When choosing a bulb, keep in mind the following:

• Estimate desired wattage - read the package to choose desired illumination level. For example, a 3W LED is equivalent in output to a 45 W incandescent.
• Choose between warm and cool light - new LED bulbs are available in 'cool' white light, which is ideal for task lighting, and 'warm' light commonly used for accent or small area lighting.
• Standard base or pin base - LEDs are available in several types of 'pin' sockets or the standard "screw' (Edison) bases for recessed or track lighting.
• Choose between standard and dimmable bulbs - some LED bulbs are now available as dimmable bulbs.
